Ikan Pari

I decided to roam around Gertak Sanggul, farther from Teluk Kumbar and arrived at Pantai Asam, a beach located in the south-east of Penang. Weekends is a favourite spot for the locals to bring their family for a picnic and of course angling. For a short stint, l landed a Pari and some Gelamas.

The thrill to bring up a fish with wings is just fabulous, not to mention if the size is 4 to 5 times bigger and weighs more than 10 kilos compared to the (pic) above. Phew, I envied them.

Cat Fish : Sembilang and Duri

The Teluk Kumbar jetty that we frequent is unique. Every fishing trip, we hooked-up some different species. We are lucky this time around to have caught Ikan Sembilang and of course the familiar Ikan Duri. What we we fear most is the other family of these cat fish, that is the Ikan Belukang.!! some folks here called them Ikan Sarjan or the Merz.

The three Sembilang weighs almost 3 kilos, very far from the standard size caught by ardent anglers around. But then, we are the only one that caught them that day. Some lucky day...!

Ikan Gelama

Even before the rest of my family could get one, Yaya got it (Gelama) first. Her fishing rod that is about her height in length easily reeled and handled. Bravo my princess!.

The jetty which is located at Teluk Kumbar, Penang and is about 300m long, well lighted during the night for the usage of fishermen transporting their catch of the day to the shore.

Love this place so much though I have yet to go to a better place.

How fishing hooked me

I was an undergraduate then, my very close friend approach me once, driving his Mini-Minor 125GT, with a very big smile, he yelled, you got nothing strumming that Yamaha guitar, my friend!!( which belongs to my brother-in-law). Got a big pail? Lets go..! I'll bring you to a place where you'll remember for life...Come..! Come..!

Like an idiot(phew..i was) following him without knowing where we were going. He was silent all the way, with that big cheeky smile on his face, he said, be ready..! we are going to catch and load that pail(size that could fill up 10 liters of water) with tons of fish!!! Yup...we're going fishing...! and fishing that is...!

And that very afternoon, we caught lots of it(Tilapias) till it jumps all over his passenger seat. Gosh...we came home smelling like fismongers!

Fishing Tilapia at the lake of Section 10, Petaling Jaya, Selangor was so much fun then. The minute you throw your fishing line and a hook fed with an earth worm, it got bitten and zapped, you got it hooked.

Just imagine the two of us standing by the lake for less than an hour or so? Yes, it did..! It did scar my memory for a very long time and till now, fishing is a MUST to me for the least ONCE in a week.

Worst is, i got my whole family into fishing as our hobby. Whatever and where ever destination we head, i'll make sure that theres water that we can go fishing. Be it freshwater or salted water.

Yes...it hooked me alright!

My very good friend Raja Azhari, where ever you are, thanks friend!

You are MOST welcome!

For those "Kaki Pancing"(fishing enthusiast), this is the place to enlighten, expose, learn and get some knowledge on (what-who-when-how-why) fishing is all about.

"Jom" means "Let's Go!". Originally, the word came from northern states of Peninsular Malaysia and it became so common that most Malaysians could easily understood the meaning of it.

Jom with the "WHAT".
